The researchers have concluded that if you stop smoking, it will contribute not only to your physical, but also for your mental health.

It is a wrong belief of smokers that if they stop smoking that will increase their anxiety for an extended period of time, showed one of the research published in the British Journal BJP.

Smokers who quit tobacco for a long term managed to reduce anxiety, while those who failed increased it, according to the results of a survey of a group of British scientists from Imperial College London and the University of Southampton.

Scientists came to this conclusion following the 491 smokers which participated in the smoking withdrawal program where was used combined psychotherapy, drug education and treatment .

Through the questionnaire they measured the level of stress before their cease of smoking, and then they measured again six months later. The result showed that  patients who succeeded to stop smoking had a greater reduction in anxiety than patients who did not manage it.

This tendency was more pronounced in individuals with certain mental disorders.
